Like a Puppy in a Park...

WOW, every time I travel, I'm reminded of why I love running so much. It's simple, pack your shoes and let your feet explore.

I was able to get a better understanding of why the Pacific Northwest has produced so many fantastic runners. All you have to do is step outside and your feet just want to explore....FAST!

Being out in Seattle for 3 days on business allowed me to experience this beautiful city for running. We were staying at the Sheraton on Pike St and ware able to get in two fantastic runs on Tues and Wednesday morning.  I ran with a some work colleagues/friends, Rich and Barry. Naturally we headed towards the water. In this case it would be the Puget Sound, which was about 6 blocks from the hotel, easy walk.

Along the Sound is a running path that is a boardwalk type path that leads to a formal paved running path. I LOVE cities that commit to providing its locals a beautiful safe place to run. I've seen it in Boston, I've seen it in St Louis, and wish Arizona would do the same...GET ON BOARD AZ.

Anyway, I remember having this feeling when I ran along the Charleston River in Boston, the only way to describe it is like a puppy being let loose in a park. Tons of runners just enjoying the joy of running in 63 degree weather with the sites of Bainbridge Island across the way and snow capped Mt Rainier in the distance.

The closer I got to the water, the more I wanted off my leash. This puppy's tail was waggin big time, having come from 111 degree runs that have just been brutal. Once again WOW, what a run. My pace will demonstrate my enthusiasm.

Rich is relatively new to distance running and is thinking about doing the P.F. Changs half marathon in January, as is Barry. Fortunately, my over zealous pace did not kill either of them. The furthest Rich had run back home was 3 miles. We did nearly 4.5 miles at a sub 9 pace...ROCK ON RICH (although he may be hating me tommorrow am). When we finished both asked if we had "picked up the pace a bit"....."sorry guys, it was the puppy in me"

Needless to say, I think we found our selves a running route for next May when we return.
