My SuperBowl!

Today was my SuperBowl Sunday....today was the NYC Marathon! Many believe the Boston Marathon to be the pinnacle of running. I believe that to be true as well, however the NYC Marathon is my favorite. My dream is to run this marathon sometime in the next 3 years. As many of you know I entered the lottery this year, but was not picked. Over 100,000 people apply for this marathon and only 35,000 are able to run it.

For me, NYC is the greatest city in the world, and to be able to see all 5 boroughs over the course of 26.2 miles by foot would be incredible. The city just stops on this day to embrace the 35,000 who are fortunate enough to do this. These are just some of the reasons why I'm driven to continue to train and run knowing that I might be among the lucky who say they have run this magnificent race.

There was a 1 hour recap on NBC, and the numbers that the elite athletes put up are staggering. The women at one point were headed up hill at mile 16 at a 4:59 pace...WOW. The mens winner ended up finishing in 2:08...that is almost 8 minutes faster than my 16 mile run yesterday. He ran the last mile at a 4:23 pace...absolutely incredible.

The rules of the NYC marathon state that if you apply 3 years in a row and are not picked, you automatically are picked the 4th year. 1 year down...in the mean time I'll just keep dreaming and training knowing that someday I'll get to run this great city!
